Penalties – It’s very important that you complete Part 2 of Form 941 or Form 944, Schedule B (Form 941), or Form 945-A (if filing Form 944) correctly, or it may appear that you didn’t deposit your taxes when due. There’s a late deposit penalty ranging from 2% to 15% depending on the length of time the deposit is late.
When do you have to file Form 941 if you are late?
For example, if you’re filing for the quarter ending Jun 30th, then you must file before July 31st. Fail to do that and you’ll be looking at a Form 941 Late Filing Penalty.
Do you need to file quarterly Form 941?

What’s the difference between form 944 and 945?
If you file Form 944 and are a semiweekly depositor, then report your tax liability on Form 945-A, Annual Record of Federal Tax Liability (PDF). The purpose of Part 2 of Form 941, Part 2 of Form 944, Schedule B (Form 941), and Form 945-A is to show the tax liability for that payday.
What to do if you make a correction on Form 941?
Any corrections to Form 941, line 11a (line 11 for quarters beginning before April 1, 2020), are reported on Form 941-X, line 16. When do you get your tax credit on Form 941?
The IRS will apply your credit on the first day of the Form 941 or Form 944 period during which you filed Form 941-X. However, the credit you show on Form 941-X, line 21, may not be fully available on your Form 941 or Form 944 if the IRS corrects it during processing or you owe other taxes, penalties, or interest.

The IRS requires businesses to report Form 941 errors on Form 941X, the Adjusted Employer’s Quarterly Federal Tax Return or Claim for Refund. Form 941X is a stand-alone form that relates line-by-line to Form 941.
